Christmas Jumper Day at MHA Chiks
As always MHA Chiks wore their winter woollies to work in aid of raising money for a selection of their local charities. A grand total of £438 and 37 selection boxes were raised between the offices.
MHA Chiks supports Clitheroe Wolves Football Club
MHA Chiks Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers is to sponsor Clitheroe Wolves Under 9’s for season 2018/19 and season 2019/20. Clitheroe Wolves Football Club is formed from players moving up from the Cubs teams in the area and has peaked in size over the years with it’s most popular season having 28 teams aged U7 to U17.
Accountants quiz night raises funds for mental health charity

MHA Chiks’s coffee morning raised £173 for Macmillan
MHA Chiks, Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, have raised £173 for Macmillan by participating in The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is the biggest fundraising event for Macmillan, it is an event where people host their own Coffee Mornings to collect donations for Macmillan. Macmillan is a charity that offers support to those who are affected by cancer.
MHA Chiks are Morecambe FC’s latest short sponsors
MHA Chiks, Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, are the new short sponsors for Morecambe Football Club for 2018/19. Morecambe Football Club is a professional football club in Morecambe, Lancashire, which plays in League Two, the fourth tier of English football. The football club were promoted into the Football League for the first time in 2007.
Chris Miller of Kendal is MHA Chiks’s Palace Shield player of the month for August / September
The final player to be awarded MHA Chiks’s player of the month for Palace Shield is Chris Miller of Kendal. In the seven games played, Chris took 30 wickets helping his side to win all seven games and clinch the second promotion spot into the Northern League. Partner at MHA Chiks, Ian Clark, presented Chris Miller with a bottle of champagne to congratulate him.
MHA Chiks raised over £250 for National Payroll Week
National Payroll Week is a national initiative that is established to raise the profile and awareness of payroll in the UK. This years National Payroll Week took place from 3rd – 7th September. Our 20 strong payroll team used this week to highlight the work that they do along with raising money for local charities. MHA Chiks raised a total of £252.
A Late Summer Luncheon raises £6k for Prince’s Trust
The Late Summer Luncheon was The Butterfly Ball’s latest event which took place on 7th September. The luncheon was hosted at Hurlston Hall and guests enjoyed a champagne reception, entertainment and a closing auction. A grand total of £6,000 was raised for the charity.
July’s Palace Shield Player of the Month is Charlie Swarbrick
Charlie Swarbrick has received the title as MHA Chiks’s July player of the month for Palace Shield. Charlie of Lancaster scored 144 in 3 innings in the month as well as taking 7 wickets as his team established themselves in the top 2 positions in the Premier Division. Partner at MHA Chiks, Adam Parton, presented Charlie with a bottle of champagne to mark the occasion.
RowRunner Challenge raises more than £4,000 for Cumbrian charity
On Saturday 21 July 2018 seven fearless members of the MHA Chiks team took on an incredible feat of endurance. The MHA Chiks team competed against 5 other boats from Crosby Granger, Temple Heelis, In Group and The Cumberland Building Society in this gruelling test. The event was organised by Richard Moore, Head of Business Services at Temple Heelis as a fund-raiser for the Brathay Trust, a Windermere based charity.
Saeed Bariwala of Kendal has been awarded MHA Chiks’s Player of the Month for June. Saeed took 18 wickets in the five games as well as scoring 88 runs as his side started to climb the Premier League table.
The accountancy firm marked the award by presenting Saeed with a bottle of champagne.
Dan Jardine is Palace Shield’s latest Player of the Month
South Shore’s Dan Jardine has been awarded MHA Chiks’s Palace Shield Player of the Month for May. Dan scored 196 runs in the six games as he captained the newly promoted side as they tried to establish a foothold in the Premier Division.
MHA Chiks presented Dan with a bottle of champagne to mark the award.
Accountants quiz night raises funds for St Jonh’s Hospice
A quiz night organised by a Lancaster firm of accountants has raised funds for St John’s Hospice. Over 50 local professionals challenged their grey matter in the annual MHA Chiks quiz night held at The Royal Hotel & Bar in Lancaster.
Teams from Eckersley, Handelsbank, Barclays, Baines Wilson, Cumberland Building Society, NatWest, Harrison Drury, Oglethorpe Sturton & Gillibrand, HSBC and JWK Solicitors and Lloyds Bank all took part.
More than £700 was raised on the night for the Hospice.
Coast to Castle Cycling Challenge
Andy Webster Consultant with MHA Chiks, Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers, together with 5 local businessmen have raised over £3000 for Queenscourt Hospice in Southport. The Team cycled over 170 miles in the Coast to Castles charity fundraiser this year in support for Queenscourt Hospice. The riders pedalled their way from Newcastle to Edinburgh in just three days, 10 – 12 May.
Southport Quiz Night raises funds for The British Legions’ Byng House
A quiz night organised by our Southport office has raised funds to support the British Legion’s Break Centre, Byng House in Southport. Over 40 local professionals challenged their grey matter in MHA Chiks quiz night held at The Reuters Bar in Southport. Teams from Handelsbanken, Lloyds, Napthens, Breens Solicitors, The County Group, Handelsbanken, MSIF, Birchall Blackburn and Byng House all took part. More than £350 was raised on the night for the charity.
Chartered Accountants take on the Coast to Castle Cycling Challenge
After successfully raising over £5,000 for charity last year in the Coast to Coast bike ride, MHA Chiks is undertaking yet another fundraising cycling challenge this year. This year, the regional accountancy firm is cycling the Coast to Castles route which comprises 170 miles of pedalling over just three days, all the way from Newcastle to Edinburgh. MHA Chiks is fundraising for their local charity Queenscourt Hospice in Southport and the bike ride will be taking place from 10 – 12 May.
Southport and Birkdale cricket club attract new sponsor
The regional accountancy firm is also the long-term sponsor of the Palace Shield cricket league in Lancashire and is regularly associated with other sports clubs and charities across the North West.
We walked, we baked, we raised £195 for Autism!
MHA Chiks Southport staff put on their best walking boots, strapped on their pedometer and set out on their 10,000 steps every day. They also took their contribution to the kitchen and baked for a cake sale held on 29th March, World Autism Awareness Day. Walk for Autism is a virtual walk organised by Autism Initiatives which encourages people to walk a healthy 10,000 steps a day during World Autism Awareness Week (26 March – 2 April).
Accountants quiz night raises funds for CancerCare
A quiz night organised MHA Chiks’s Kendal Office has raised funds to support CancerCare. Over 45 local professionals challenged their grey matter in the annual MHA Chiks quiz night held at The Villa at Levens. Teams from Handelsbanken, Barclays, Thomson, Hayton Winkley, Temple Heelis, Harrison Drury, Cumberland Building Society, Edwin Thompson and CancerCare all took part.
Temple Heelis were crowned champions on the night after beating off stiff competition; MHA Chiks’s team were worthy runners up. More than £500 was raised on the night for the charity.
Southport professionals’ Coast2Coast ride nets £4k
Five local business professionals have raised over £4,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society after completing a 140-mile coast to coast bike ride.
Andy and his four riding partners, Tom Flanagan, Mark Day, Matt Dunham and Paul Roberts, chose the charity because several of their family members have been affected by dementia.
The quintet completed the ride over four days from May 17-20 to coincide with Dementia Awareness Week.
Star-studded ball gives Prince’s Trust a £20k boost
The star-studded ball, now in its 5th year was at held at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa, near Blackburn earlier this month and was attended by more than 300 guests, including Lord and Lady Shuttleworth, the charity’s patrons.
The evening, which included entertainment from Scottish singer Barbara Dickson, former X Factor contestant Fleur East and Faces of Disco, a duo who found fame on Britain’s Got Talent, included a glittering champagne reception, sponsored by Chiks, and a three-course dinner.

Make a Cuppa Count
Our Southport office caused quite the stir at our ‘Make a Cuppa Count’ event in aid of Queenscourt Hospice on Friday 11th November.
Putting something back is at the heart of what we do, and what better way to do so than with coffee and cake?
Queenscourt Hospice provides support for the people of Southport, Formby and West Lancashire, caring for patients with serious illnesses ensuring they receive the best possible care and quality of life, with two-thirds of the charity’s income dependent on charitable donations.
Our Southport office came together, with the help of Starbucks Coffee and Claire Ryland of RBS, to deliver an assortment of delicious treats for local Southport based businesses and professionals.
Everybody dug deep and together we raised over £400.
Treats on offer included lots of lovely home baked cupcakes, lemon cake and of course chocolate cake -We’re already waiting in anticipation of the next batch!
Macmillan Coffee Morning
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s largest fundraising event to raise money for people facing cancer. Our staff got together in September to host their own coffee morning to help raise money in support of the charity.
Sally French was the chief organiser in charge of setting up the buffet in one of our meeting rooms. The buffet provided a wide selection of cakes, muffins and brownies.
In total, the office managed to raise £76 for Macmillan and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event.
Alex Mason named Palace Shield Player of the Month
Alex Mason from Longridge CC has snatched MHA Chiks’s SE+ Palace Shield player of the month tittle.
He gave an impressive performance by taking 24 wickets in the 5 games as well as scoring 66 runs.
The team of the month is Fulwood and Broughton 1st XI who won all 5 games scoring 58 points to increase their lead at the top of the Premier Division.
To mark the award, the winners were presented with the prize by MHA Chiks’s SE+ Corporate Services Director, Paul Williams.
Palace Shield – Meyler Cup
Garstang CC are the winners of the 2016 Meyler Cup. Mark Walling won the toss and asked Vernon Carus to bat. They made a poor start losing two wickets in the early overs, however a strong partnership between Wes Royle (83) and Christian Ash (46) got the score moving. James McDonagh (43) continued the momentum.
Vernon’s completed their 40 overs with a score of 196 for 7. Garstang, similarly, lost an early wicket but the brothers Walling built a match winning score of 155 for 1, before the rain came. Michael was on 86no and Mark on 41no.
In the event of rain in the final, the side scoring the faster in runs per over throughout the innings shall be declared the winner.
The Umpires Messrs Trevor Wilde & Geoffrey Sheard declared Michael Walling, Man of the Match with his 86no and bowling figures of 8overs 0 wkts 24 runs.
MHA Chiks’s Partner had the pleasure of awarding the trophies and prizes to the lucky winners.
MHA Chiks chip in for hospice
More than 90 attendees swotted up on their general knowledge to help raise £1,469 for Southport’s Queenscourt Hospice.
The money was raised at an annual quiz evening hosted by local accountancy firm MHA Chiks at The Argyle Tennis Club, Argyle Road.
Attended by businesses and professionals from across the area, the event raised the cash through ticket sales and a raffle, while guests also enjoyed a fish and chip supper.
Partner at MHA Chiks’s Southport office, said: “This was one of the most well attended and successful quiz evenings we’ve ever had at the firm. It’s great to be able to hand over these vital funds to Queenscourt Hospice. We’d like to offer a huge thank you to all those who came and supported the event and the hospice.”
Businesses attending the event included RBS, Birchall Blackburn, Fletchers, Hodge Halsall, and Napthens. The quiz was won by a team from MHA Chiks and the runners up were Napthens.

Quiz night raises funds for Community Link Foundation
A quiz night organised by MHA Chiks’s Southport office went ahead on Friday 31st July 2015 at Argyle Tennis Club. The quiz night, which included a variety of different rounds and a raffle, was held in aid of Community Link Foundation. There were 12 teams and an impressive 72 people in attendance which included representatives from Hodge Halsall, Birchall Blackburn, RBS and Natwest.
The quiz was a close contest, but the Blackpool MHA Chiks team came out victorious beating another MHA Chiks team from Preston. The event raised £352 for the selected charity.
Community Link Foundation assist anyone in Southport and surrounding areas who require financial support in a number of ways. Whether that be a parent with a child who requires assistance with a long-term illness or disease, a sports team in need of new equipment, or a community group that needs financial support, Community Link Foundation help those who need it most. Beverly Bond, a Corporate Accountant from the MHA Chiks Southport office, and the event organiser said, “We would like to say a big thank you to all who helped out, and to the teams for taking part. It was a really great turnout, and an enjoyable evening had by all for a brilliant cause.”
Mohammed Nadeem named MHA Chiks SE + Palace Shield Player of the Month
Great Eccleston celebrated a double win in June! Mohammed Nadeem, picked up the player of the month award having scored an impressive 319 runs in the month – with scores of 107 not out, 69 not out, 79 not out and 64 – as well as taking 11 wickets.
The Great Eccleston 3rd XI playing in Division4 were awarded the team of the month prize after securing 4 wins in June with a maximum point’s haul of 48. To mark the award, the winners were presented with the awards by MHA Chiks’s Partner, Mike Hardaker.
Ian Walling named Palace Shield Player of the Month
Great Garstang’s Ian Walling has snatched MHA Chiks’s SE+ Palace Shield player of the month title.
IIn the 6 games during the April and May period, Ian took 29 wickets at an average of 7.62 including a 9 wicket haul against Longridge and an 8 wicket haul against Freckleton.
The team of the month for the same period is Ingol 1st Xi who had a perfect return in Division 4 with 6 wins from 6 and the maximum available points of 72.
To mark the award, the winners were presented with the prize by MHA Chiks’s SE+ Director, Judith Dugdale.
Christmas Jumper Day raises cash
Our six offices took part in the nation-wide Christmas jumper day last Friday in aid of ‘Save the Children’ charity. Collectively we managed to raise £227.01 and had a fun, festive time doing-so.
Christmas Bear Competition
The Preston staff at MHA Chiks took part in the Galloway’s Christmas Bear competition across the festive period. The aim of the game was to pay £1 for a chance to guess the name of the bear. We managed to raise £36.00, and with 30 bears in offices across the Preston area, businesses have collectively worked together to raise as much as possible for the charity.
Jacobs Join for Children in Need
On Wednesday 11th November 2015 our Lancaster office organised a Jacobs Join for Children in Need. The entire Lancaster team came together to provide a great selection of savouries and sweets, and the response was fantastic. As well as the brilliant buffet, staff were invited to take part in The Official Children in Need game: ‘What made Pudsey LOL’. The game cost £1 to enter, and the prize was a chocolate bar from our Lancaster tuck-shop. Both activities raised a combined total of £78.15!
Children in Need has raised a record-breaking £37,100,687 this year, and with donated funds going to disadvantaged children and young people in the UK, every little really does help for such a worthy cause.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
The annual Macmillan Coffee Morning took place on Friday 25th September 2015, and this year both our Preston and Blackpool offices hosted their own coffee mornings.
Chief organiser Sally French set up the Preston buffet in our large internal meeting room, with a wide selection of sweet and savoury treats from homemade pizzas, through to Victoria sponge cake and brownies. The buffet cost £3 to enter, and this entitled you to all you can eat.
In total, both offices managed to raise £204.16 for Macmillan and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event.
Whilst our Kendal office may not have took part in the official coffee morning, they will be hosting their own coffee morning on Thursday 8th October, with all proceeds going to Macmillan.
Clothes Collection for Nottingham Hospice
Our Nottingham office have been mustering up as many unused clothes, bags, shoes, toys etc.as they could to give to Nottingham Hospice. The collection, organised by Corporate Assistant Katy Plant, stacked up 14 bags in total, and with each bag of unused items making approximately £25-£30 per bag, this is a fantastic effort from the Nottingham team.
Katy’s daughter helped her take the items along to the local Hospice.
In addition to this, they have also handed over £50.00 that was raised through carrying out ‘Dress Down Fridays’ during July.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Giving Tree
Ronald McDonald House Charities have created a ‘giving tree’ at their Manchester site to honor all of those who have supported them with donations over the years. MHA Chiks’s Katy Allen went along to receive our place on the giving tree from their chair of the Board of Governors of the house, Steve Burne.
MHA Chiks held the ‘Tour de Smalley’ back in June last year in aid of RMHC, which saw employees virtually cycling the distance between all of our offices, and managed to raise an impressive £2,554.89.
Symphony at the Tower
On the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of July 2015, the annual extravaganza ‘Symphony at the Tower’ took place at the beautiful, fortified manor house, Hoghton Tower. The event, which is held to raise funds for St Catherines Hospice, ran across both the Friday and Saturday night’s and included live performances from the likes of Status Quo and Blake. Guests were invited to purchase the different food and beverages on offer, as well as raffle tickets for the big prize draw, all of which added to the proceeds raised for the locally-renowned charity.
Several MHA Chiks employees volunteered to help out with the running of the evening. Duties included directing guests in and out of the venue, manning the car parks, litter picking, and selling raffle tickets. Their help meant that the weekend could run as efficiently and smoothly as possible, and the amount raised for St Catherine’s Hospice has surpassed last year’s grand total.
Quiz night donation for Alice’s Escape
A quiz night organised by MHA Chiks in Kendal has raised funds for a South Lakes charity which provides family holidays for seriously ill children.
Over 40 professionals took part in the annual quiz night held at Carus Green Golf Club in Kendal which included teams from Handelsbank, HSBC, Barclays, Thomson, Hayton Winkley, NatWest, Harrison Drury, Temple Heelis, Lloyds, RBS and Peill & Co.
St Catherine’s Hospice 30th Anniversary Cake Sale
St Catherine’s Hospice has joined forces with the Lancashire Evening Post to launch a huge campaign to mark their 30th Anniversary. The pledge titled ‘Give A Gift’ is running throughout the year, and is centred around 30 things big and small they would like their strong community of supporters to help them achieve. Their goals include 3,000 new friends on Facebook and Twittter, 300 sales of their anniversary cook book, and 30 adrenalin junkies to skydive in September. But all of which, are of course to drive up donations, and with a refurbishment of the corridors, investing in 3 new specialised beds, and a ‘moisture meter’ for their Woodside Lymphoedema Clinic all on their list of hopeful achievements this year, every donation really does matter.
MHA Chiks were happy to help and opted for a cake sale with this proving to be a great success in previous years. On Friday 5th June, employees from across the firm brought in a variety of cakes they had either baked or bought, and employees indulged in exchange for a donation of their choice. We managed to raise a brilliant £148. 86, and everybody had a thoroughly enjoyable day sampling the broad variety of lovely tasty cakes.
Accountants quiz night raises funds for Stricklandgate House
A quiz night organised by a Kendal firm of accountants has raised funds for a Kendal charity which is The Centre for Voluntary Organisations based in South Lakeland.
Over 40 local professionals took part in the annual MHA Chiks quiz night held at Carus Green Golf Club in Kendal which included teams from Handelsbanken, HSBC, Barclays, Thomson, Hayton Winkley, NatWest, Harrison Drury, Temple Heelis and Progression Solicitors.
The quiz was won on the night by Temple Heelis who just pipped HSBC to the winning post by 1 point. The event raised £550 for the charity.
Stricklandgate House Trust provides accommodation, common services and facilities for voluntary organisations in South Lakeland. In addition, it has conference, meeting and counselling rooms which are available for hire.
John Gallagher, Centre Manager at Stricklandgate House said: “I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported the quiz night. We are currently home to around 20 tenant organisations which include The Alzheimer’s Society, South Lakeland Mind, Sight Advice South Lakes and the Kendal Family Drop-in Centre and this money will go towards something that will benefit all of our tenants”.

Accountants quiz night donation for Lancashire Boys and Girls Clubs

Over 50 local professionals took part in the annual MHA Chiks quiz night held at The Gatehouse restaurant in Lancaster. Teams from Oglethorpe, Sturton and Gillibrand, Reid Hamilton, Handelsbanken, HSBC, Barclays, Baines Wilson, NatWest, Harrison Drury and RBS challenged their grey matter for charity. Barclays were crowned champions on the night, snatching the title from last year’s winners NatWest.
More than £600 was raised on the night for Lancashire Boys and Girls Clubs.
Adrian French, County Organiser for Lancashire Boys and Girls Clubs attended the quiz night said: “Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those considered to be disadvantaged, to realise their potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
“It was fantastic to see such a turnout from the Lancaster business community at the quiz. The money raised tonight will go towards supporting a range of positive and fun activities for young people across the county.”

Russell Watson to perform at Blackburn Cathedral
Russell Watson and the Army Military Wives will appear alongside Blackburn and Darwen Brass Band at a special Christmas event being held at Blackburn Cathedral in December.
‘A Candlelit Christmas’ takes place on December 17 with tickets available from the box office at King Georges Hall.
The show is being held in aid of The Princes Trust and has been organised by Butterfly Ball Occasion, with assistance from MHA Chiks, the team behind the annual , one of East Lancashire’s biggest fundraising evenings.
Partner Danny Houghton said: “Russell and the Army Military Wives performed at the Butterfly Ball a couple of years ago and to see and hear them both live was a truly wonderful experience. This is a great opportunity to see two great acts in a spectacular festive setting.”
Macmillan Coffee Mornings proves a great success
Both our Preston and Kendal offices have recently held coffee mornings in aid of Macmillan. There were various cakes, both baked and bought, along with many other pastries and sandwiches. Kendal managed to raise £151.25, and Preston £175.03 – in total an excellent £326.28
MHA Chiks rack up £5k hospice funds
MHA Chiks has raised over £5,000 for charity as part of its annual corporate challenge. Staff at the firm’s Blackpool office have organised a flurry of events to raise the cash for Blackpool-based charities Trinity Hospice and Brian House Children’s Hospice.
Charity Sky Dive in aid of Deafway
On the morning of the 21st September, MHA Chiks’s Cheryl Fynney took part in a sky dive for the charity Deafway. The sky dive, which was originally supposed to take place on Saturday 20th but was rescheduled for bad weather, saw Cheryl jump from 15,000 ft – which is the highest jump in the UK.
Cheryl and her partner Pete managed to raise an impressive £805.00, which surpassed their original aim of £750.00. The sky dive was in aid of a charity called Deafway, in particular, a small free boarding school that they help to support called St Anthony’s, situated close to the trading post of Nkozi in Uganda.
The Palace Shield concludes with a number of successful Cup Finals
The Palace Shield cricket is coming to a close for another year, with a series of momentous cup finals taking place in August and September.
The Crabtree Cup Final went ahead on the 3rd August at Freckleton CC, with Vernon Carus victorious. MHA Chiks’s Ben Harrison attended the final and presented the winners with a bottle of champagne and a voucher for Marks and Spencer. The Meyler Cup Final took place on 17th August at Thornton Cleveleys CC, and Dave Gleeson ensured the winners received their gifts.
The Loxham Cup Final was rescheduled due to weather, and will now take place on 7th September.
MHA Chiks’s pedal push raises £2.5k for national children’s charity
Staff from multiple MHA Chiks offices pedalled 259 miles to raise money for a national children’s charity.
In its own take on the Tour de France, Le Tour de Smalley saw 49 MHA Chiks staff cycle a virtual route at its Preston headquarters, covering the distance between the firm’s six offices and raising £2,528 for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).
Cheered on by colleagues and clients, the team smashed their 185 mile target – the distance between its northernmost office in Kendal and its southernmost base in Nottingham.
With houses in 14 locations across the UK, Ronald McDonald House Charities aims to keep families together by providing free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families with children in hospital.
RMHC’s houses helped over 7,000 families in 2013, but the charity relies on donations to continue its work.
Two bikes for the challenge were provided by MHA Chiks client, Preston-based Ribble Cycles.
Three peaks challenge raises over £1,000 for Macmillan
MHA Chiks’s Mike Hardaker was among a group of seven local professionals who have completed the Yorkshire Dales Three Peaks for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Mike, who finished in 10 hours and 50 minutes, said: “I took part in the challenge because I love walking and because it was for such an important cause. Everyone knows someone impacted by cancer and Macmillian perform such a vital role in our community.” In total, they raised over £1,000 for Macmillan.
Employees partake in Race for Life raising £389.00
On Wednesday 9th July 2014, ten ladies from the MHA Chiks Blackpool office took part in the Race for Life Blackpool in aid of Cancer Research.
The course was 2.5km, and took the participants along the lower and upper promenade before concluding at Festival Headland.
The MHA Chiks team managed to raise an impressive £389.00 for Cancer Research.
MHA Chiks supports Brinscall Cricket Club
Brinscall Cricket Club is hoping to bowl over the competition thanks to a cash donation from accountants and business advisers MHA Chiks.
The Preston-based firm made the donation as part of its pledge to ‘put something back’ by supporting various community projects and causes.
Brinscall CC’s 1st XI captain is a chartered financial planner at MHA Chiks, which led to the company offering their support.
The funds will be used on a number of improvements to Brinscall’s ground on School Lane.
The Bleasdale Challenge
On Thursday 5th June 2014, to raise funds for The Prince’s Trust, the Really Wild Clay Company held a sporting clay shoot at Bleasdale Tower, Lancashire, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Jake Duckworth.
The day included a lunch cooked by Michelin starred chef Nigel Haworth following a champagne and canape reception.
The day concluded with an auction of special exclusive lots to raise funds for The Prince’s Trust: presentation of prizes to the winning teams.
Butterfly Ball gives £77k boost to Prince’s Trust
One of Lancashire’s biggest fundraising events has given a boost to the UK’s leading charity for young people, The Prince’s Trust.
The Gaggeneau Butterfly Ball, a glittering star-studded event attended by more than 300 people, raised £77k for the charity through ticket sales, auctions and prize draws on the night.
On the 29th March 2014, Corporate Services Director, Judith Dugdale took part in an Xrunner event in Derby with 5 friends. It was a 10k “muddy” assault course.
Xrunner is leading the way in a new era of adventure sport. It is not your average trail run, it is the ultimate adventure playground.
Judith’s chosen charity was Coeliac UK which raises money for research into Coeliac disease and she raised £260.
Judith’s friends raised a further £800 which is going to Help the Heroes.
Accountants quiz night raises £1,200 for the YMCA
A quiz night organised by a Lancaster firm of accountants has raised funds for local charity, Lancaster YMCA.
Over 50 local professionals took part in the annual MHA Chiks quiz night held at The Gatehouse restaurant in Lancaster. Teams from Oglethorpe, Sturton and Gillibrand, Reid Hamilton, Handelsbanken, HSBC, Barclays, Leonard Curtis, Baines Wilson, NatWest, JWK and Harrison Drury challenged their grey matter for charity. NatWest snatched victory on the night after winning on a tie-break question.
More than £600 was raised on the night, a sum which Barclay’s Bank have agreed to match fund, so over £1,200 has been raised for this worthwhile cause.
Apprentice experience for enterprising St Bede pupils
Budding entrepreneurs from St Bede Academy have battled it out in an Apprentice-style competition as part of the school’s Enterprise Week.
All 17 classes at the academy were asked to put their business and maths skills to the test and develop a new product, which could be sold to members of the public to generate a profit.
The young tycoons came up with inventions ranging from stress balls to personalised plant pots, and pitched their ideas to judges Nicola Mason and Chris Wilson from MHA Chiks Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers.
Macmillan coffee morning raised over £300
MHA Chiks staff took part in the ‘world’s biggest coffee morning’ for Macmillan Cancer Support. The Macmillan Coffee Morning started in 1990. The idea encourages people to meet and mingle over coffee and cake, donating the cost of their coffee to Macmillan in the process.
The event was held on Friday 27th September 2013 with staff at the Preston and East Midlands office participating to raise money for this cause.
The East Midlands office opened its doors to neighbours, including the Institute of Quarrying and EDF Tax. They held a cake sale and raffle.Thank you to all that donated, we managed to raise over £300.
Jail and Bail at Lancaster Castle
MHA Chiks’s Corporate Services Director, Adam Parton, took part in an excellent fundraiser “Jail and Bail” to raise money for Cancer Care.
Adam was amongst 15 other business people that volunteered to be locked up in C-Wing at the Castle Cells on the morning of October 22nd. Each inmate had to call upon their friends and contacts to raise a minimum of £500 “bail” before being released.
Adam managed to raise over £1,100 and as a whole the group raised £16k + before gift aid.
Thank you to all that made a donation. Cancer Care are celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and still requiring public donations to keep carrying our its fantastic work.

An innovative new fundraising initiative was introduced to the Lancaster business community at The Holiday Inn, Caton Road, as Moore & Smalley and Barclays Bank competed in the heat of the kitchen to raise funds for The Smile Foundation and Lancaster’s Unique Kidz & Co.
