Autumn Statement: Make it easier for businesses to recruit
November 27, 2012
I would like to see the chancellor announce proposals to make it easier and more cost effective for business owners to create new jobs.
Extending the Employer NI holiday to existing businesses, not just start ups, would provide huge benefits for firms who are currently put off creating new positions because of the 13.8 per cent rate for contributions we have currently.
I would also like to see government offer a greater financial contribution to businesses that take on apprentices. Despite increased support in this area in recent years, apprentices are still a significant financial gamble for many businesses, especially smaller firms.
This makes employers wary of recruiting the people they need to grow their business and means they don’t benefit from new skills. I would also welcome any measure that removes more of the red tape around recruitment and employment more generally.
