More sophisticated methods are being used and unfortunately, it is not uncommon for impersonation and deception scams to catch people out.
There has been a surge in the use of malicious software and phishing emails to compromise customers’ security, while scammers have pretended to be bank staff, police officers and have even used email addresses in the name of GP partners to persuade finance staff to send money to scam bank accounts.
For cases involving transfers of money, the banks often refuse to refund customers on the basis that they made the payment voluntarily.
Don’t let your practice become a victim, always ensure the payee is legitimate and any new payments are vetted before being made.
